Safe Cosmetics Video

The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics, which was created by the Environmental Working Group, has just published a brand new video called “What’s Going on with Toxic Chemicals in Cosmetics?”  It’s worth watching and sharing!

The video features Mia, the grassroots coordinator for the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics. If you can help out financially, THIS is a link for making a contribution to the Environmental Working Group. Or if you can devote a little time to support this grassroots effort, THIS is a link to actions you can take for the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics.  We all need to help improve this horrible situation of toxins in our personal care products!

Organic is more nutritious

agro_coverYou may remember the report last month from Great Britain claiming that Organic food was no more nutritious than other foods. Most of us were pretty sure that was wrong.  But it’s good to see in print a good authority disputing that observation.

The major points of The French Agency for Food Safety study are:

  1. Organic plant products contain more dry matter (more nutrient dense)
  2. Have higher levels of minerals
  3. Contain more anti-oxidants such as phenols and salicylic acid (known to protect against cancers, heart disease and many other health problems)
  4. Organic animal products contain more polyunsaturated fatty acids (protect against heart disease)
  5. Carbohydrate, protein and vitamin levels are insufficiently documented
  6. 94–100% of organic foods do not contain any pesticide residues
  7. Organic vegetables contain far less nitrates, about 50% less (high nitrate levels are linked to a range of health problems including diabetes and Alzheimer’s)
  8. Organic cereals contain similar levels of mycotoxins as conventional ones

You can read the the news article on this report at Foodmag.com.au with a commentary from Andre Leu, Chairman of the Organic Federation of Australia.  Or you can access the full scientific report at http://swroc.cfans.umn.edu/organic/ASD_Lairon_2009.pdf

The positive characteristics of organic food also apply to personal care products made with USDA Certified Organic ingredients such our MiEssence products.  Good news for all!

Because we are all connected

I just got this in a Tweet from OrganicFest, which is an organic festival in Ashville, NC next weekend. It’s a terrific video and couldn’t resist sharing it.

This video (on YouTube) is a charming little cartoon totally suitable for everyone, even small children. It’s done by the World Wildlife Fund, but they aren’t pushy at promoting themselves. They just state at the end that this is the business of http://wwf.org I really love this! Hope you like it, too!

Support Environmental Organizations

There are many great ways to have a positive impact on the preservation and conservation of our precious environment here on the Earth.  Just to name a few:  Reduce, Reuse, Recycle;  Buy Local and Organic;  Use Renewable Energy; and much, much more…  But we can also make financial contributions, no matter how small, to organizations who will use our money work in the field, doing the actual conservation and preservation work.  Here are a few organizations that I try to support.

Tell us about other organizations that you consider worthy of a donation.

Summer Rayne Oakes – Eco-Model

Perhaps I’m just oblivious to mainstream media, or maybe just oblivious.  StyleNaturallyBut I had never heard of Summer Rayne Oakes until today.  I have to thank Gideon Wayne Fitzpatrick for writing a blog post about her on his site yesterday.  That’s how I found her.  He mentioned her new book and the fact that she reviews MiEssence products in it.  The book is titled Style, Naturally: The Savvy Shopping Guide to Sustainable Fashion and Beauty.  I guess I’ll have to buy a copy to see the product reviews and also her pages about Narelle Chenery, our ONEgroup founder.

But I became intrigued by this beautiful young woman and just what exactly an Eco-Model might be.  So, I Googled her name and got 59,500 links.  She has websites, www.summerrayne.net, a blog, www.summerrayneoakes.blogspot.com,  her own WikiPedia listing (with LOTS of reference links), and is a contributor at www.Treehugger.com  and www.planetgreen.discovery.com.  She seems to be the real deal, Brains AND Beauty.

Here’s her definition of Eco-Modeling:

Values-based modelingnoun
The act, art, or profession of aligning your values and image with the core social, ethical, and environmental values of a company, brand, organization, or program.

synonyms: cause-related modeling, eco-modeling”

I have to applaud her efforts.  She is using her notoriety to promote green values.  She can have so much more of an impact than most of us.  I respect and support her work.

What do you think?

Organic Clothing

Usually I wear organic clothing if I can find it and afford it.  But there’s the rub.  There just isn’t a whole lot out there.  Looking in local stores, at least here in Myrtle Beach, SC, is usually a lost cause.  But even on-line, there just doesn’t seem to be much for adults.  I’ve seen lots of organic baby clothes, and who can deny that babies are more important than us lowly adults.  But…  I want organic clothing.

So when I found this site today, I was excited and wanted to share.  Yes, It’s Organic has a really extensive range or clothing for men, women, AND babies.  They also carry organic bedding and bath products, organic bags, organic home products, and sustainable furniture.  I was just blown away about the range of their offerings!

I know there are lots of other sites out there with organic clothing, and I hope you will help me find them.  Please leave us a comment with your suggestion!

Thanks,
Linda Murdock

Green is the New Black

Market research companies charge big bucks for their reports.  But this blog post is quoting from some of those gems of information.

For instance:

“…the natural personal care market in the U.S. jumped 19% to $2 billion in sales for 2008, according to a recent study from market research firm Kline & Company, Little Falls, NJ. Furthermore, the Natural Marketing Institute of Harleysville, PA found sales of natural/organic personal care jumped 7% to $8.4 billion for 2008 across all retail and direct-to-consumer channels.”

“At least two out of three beauty product users say they are interested in some form of “eco-beauty” products being either natural, organic, green/eco-friendly, or socially conscious/responsible beauty SKUs, according to a report from Port Washington, NY-based marketing firm The NPD Group, Inc.”

You can read the rest of this interesting blog post at http://justskincare.blogspot.com/2009/07/green-is-new-black-innovations-abound.html.  But I don’t recommend the products they are promoting.  They seems to use some organic products, but they also include some artificial chemicals.

This interesting information about the market for Organic Personal Care Products, brings me to the topic of the MiEssence Home Business.  I am an “Independent Representative” for ONEgroup, the maker of MiEssence, MiEnviron, and MiVitality organic products.  I make money by introducing people to this wonderful company and their fabulous products.  You can, too!

Are  you passionate about health and wellness; the value or using organics; the need to keep toxic chemicals out of our bodies and environment; and/or superior quality organic products?  Then you can work at promoting and distributing the first and best complete line of personal care products (also household cleansers and health supplements) made with USDA Certified Organic ingredients.  ONEgroup is serious about the health of our bodies and our planet.

ONEgroup is operating and manufacturing in an eco-friendly manner as well as supporting eco and people friendly non-profit groups:  http://grandstrandorganics.mionegroup.com/en/giving

Our products are made of ONLY 100% beneficial ingredients, most of them certified by four independent certification organizations:  http://grandstrandorganics.mionegroup.com/en/organic

ONEgroup fully discloses every ingredient in our products http://grandstrandorganics.mionegroup.com/en/glossary and works to expose the dangers of toxic chemicals http://grandstrandorganics.mionegroup.com/en/toxic.

So, here’s some info about how you, too, can become a representative for real organic products and the eco-friendly company, ONEgroup, who makes them.   All reps get their own customized version of four websites for free.  Mine are customized with my ID, grandstrandorganics.

In the BOX on the right panel of this blog are three .pdf files that you can download about ONEgroup and our products.  And there is a great wealth of information in the Earn Income section of our website http://grandstrandorganics.mionegroup.com/en/earn.  So think it over.  Check it out.  And then we’ll talk.  I’m available most of the time at (843) 236-2607 and you can always email me at Linda@GrandStrandOrganics.com.

We look forward to hearing from you and working with you!
